You must realize that your puppy will have times when they can't help it and they will go to the bathroom where they should not. This will happen, it is inevitable, when it does just take your puppy over to the mistake and have them smell it then immediately take them to where they are supposed to go. The mistake must get cleaned up right away and entirely or your puppy might go back there again.

While you are getting the hang of how to potty train a puppy keep them on a feeding schedule. Always feed them at the same time and put them on their pad or take them outside when they are done eating. Water, should be left out all day and only taken up about two hours before bedtime. Whenever your puppy is done drinking take them to their bathroom place.

Try not to play with your puppy when you bring them to their bathroom place until after they go to the bathroom. If they do not go take them away from their place but bring them back shortly wait until they go and try to use the same words like" potty time". If you ever see your puppy sniffing around the house chances are they have to go to the bathroom.

When learning how to potty train a puppy keep in mind that they need to go to the bathroom after a nap, after playing, last thing at night and frist thing in the morning. If you hear them moving around a lot at night they might need to go than also.

If you need to leave your puppy alone, and you do not want to put them in a crate, find a place to confine them to with floors that can be cleaned easily, even if you need to get one of those plastic or wooden gates to keep them in a room. If you are training your puppy to go potty indoors, confine them to the area with the potty. Take them out as soon as you get home.

Knowing how to potty train a puppy is important if you do not want to frustrated the first couple of weeks. It is not hard but it is time consuming, but you are building a friendship that will last a lifetime.
